ACT Matrix Resources

Here is the resource page. The main thing is to download the script. I would suggest you bookmark this page so you can watch the videos whenever you want.

I can be reached by email at [email protected] for questions. It would be great to hear from you and your experience with this simple shift.

You may also consider joining my email list to receive additional support and announcements regarding the ACT and Prosocial Matrix.

Quick Orientation to the Matrix Diagram and Point of View

This orients you to the Matrix - learners don't need all this detail.

D1 (Vertical line): Outside vs. inside experiences

D2 (Horizontal line): Satisfaction (approaching what matters) vs. Relief (avoiding discomfort)

Originally, we used "toward/away." In 2021, we shifted to "satisfaction/relief" to emphasize internal feelings. No one moves away FROM who and what is important to them—they move away from uncomfortable experiences.

Use what works for you. The Matrix evolves.

Noticing these differences builds awareness and the ability to make workable choices.

         Noticing and Workability video

We influence, not control. The Matrix helps students notice: "Is this working?"

They answer through experience, not words. This builds the ability to pause, notice the big picture, and choose - without judgment.

Learning by experience: choosing actions, discovering what works, making course corrections.

Moving toward the life they want means noticing relief vs. satisfaction moves over time.

Stuck Loops and the Struggle

Everyone struggles. In this video, I show you how to lead students toward a shift in perspective where they can process where they can "have" unwanted experiences rather than be defined by them.

Sorting for Psychological Flexibility

and Observer Self

Sorting is a natural skill we all love. Inviting students to sort their experiences into the Matrix builds psychological flexibility and learning.

This video uses the original Matrix with "Me Noticing" in the center - reminding us that sorting is always done from the Observer Self perspective. It was originally part of an online course that continues to be relevant today.

I use "Toward/Away" here, but currently teach "Satisfaction/Relief." Use whichever language works best for you.
